If you’re anything like me, you have a yearly budget set aside for eyecare. This includes contacts, glasses and eye exams. It can get pretty expensive depending on where you live.
For example, in my hometown of Huntington, WV an eye exam at the local Walmart will set you back anywhere from $150 to $225; yes you basically get penalized the worse your vision is. How do they justify this? I’m not quite sure. Don’t get me wrong, they are great and I’ve never had a problem there.
But it wasn’t until I moved to Columbus, OH a few years ago that I realized how much I may have been getting gauged. I ran into America’s Best at Easton and fell in love with it. The people are awesome and I’ve yet to find anyone who can beat their prices.
They offer a $99 eyecare club with your first exam. This includes free eye exams for three years. It was around 20 dollars in addition to the regular exam – for a total of around 99 bucks. Honestly I didnt pay much attention because I was still paying less than half of what I was paying in WV..
So a year passed and I made an appointment. Guess what? The exam really was free. I got out of there paying only for my contacts… which were about the same price I was accustomed to paying. I was expecting some gimmick or reason why I wasnt qualified to get the free exam but nope…
The doctor was very thorough too… explaining to me as he went along exactly what he was seeing and what was going on with my eyes. He explained to me in detail and was very patient with my many questions. I have come into contact with doctors who are dismissive to my inquiries… but needless to say I didnt keep them as a doctor and requested someone else if I wasn’t satisfied. Never be afraid to do this… healthcare is very intimate… you want to be comfortable with those who provide it. I always believed in treating people the way I want to be treated.. so if I’m not being treated with kindness and compassion from a provider (when I am showing respect and kindness in return) then I request to see someone else. This goes for doctors, nurses, support staff or just whomever.
Needless to say I have never had issues with America’s Best at Easton in Columbus. Even if you live a couple hours away… I would highly recommend their services. Just keep in mind they do require a follow up visit after the first contact lens exam. After the first year the doctor doesn’t typically require it unless you are changing lense brands.
I’ve been going to the eye doctor since I was a child and America’s Best is hands down the best experience I have ever had. This is coming from someone who has always been intimidated by healthcare providers and the entire process. Even though I had been going for decades to the eye doctor, I always felt intimidated. That has now changed as I feel right at home everytime I enter America’s Best.
I never stay long in one place and they have locations (or within driving distance) to my favorite cities: Miami, Ft Lauderdale (Oakland Park) Columbus and Houston. So I’m about covered!
