Watch “The Corporation (2003)” on YouTube

Excellent documentary on putting the corporation on the psychiatrist’s couch and asking ” What kind of person is it?” Hint: it’s not flattering. As for me, before I legally partner with anyone (esp when they have a legal say in how I run my company) I make sure we are on the same page on how corporations (including all hybrid legal entities) should behave and what responsibilities they have as a legal person, as seen in the eyes of the law.

I have learned from past mistakes. Lesson for you: Make sure your partners are supportive on how you want to run the company. If not, make sure they don’t have a say by issuing non voting shares. Also I advise mentioning it in your operating agreement – the Bible of your organization.

The documentary begins with an unusual detail that came from the 14th Amendment: Under constitutional law, corporations are seen as individuals. So, filmmaker Mark Achbar asks, what type of person would a corporation be? The evidence, according to such political activists as Noam Chomsky and filmmaker Michael Moore and company heads like carpet magnate Ray Anderson, points to a bad one, as the film aims to expose IBM’s Nazi ties and these large businesses’ exploitation of human rights.
