You’re Kinda Important

Sometimes positive thinking gets a bad rap for being an ideology that encourages us to deny reality, submit cheerfully to misfortune and blame only ourselves for our fate.

It’s difficult  to discuss the Law of Attraction to someone at or near the bottom of Maslow’s hierarchy… it’s so much easier discussing it with someone who’s self actualized.. You know?  If your life isnt everything you want it to be,  you only have yourself to blame, right?  No I don’t think it’s so simple.

So what to do?    It’s a constant battle in my mind.  I do know I will not participate in anything which ails our worlds’ people.. including exploiting her resources or her citizens for my own selfish gains.  Or arrogantly passing out blame to my fellow humans for their misfortunes or shortcomings  in life…. while proclaiming “I worked hard, you didn’t’  or ” You’re lazy, I’m motivated’  “I’m educated, you’re not”  Which, the latter, by the way annoys the FUCK out of me…. Some people will use any means at their disposal  to gain power over you or announce their superiority to the massrs by saying this….   I believe in education but I believe more in critical thinking.   There are millions of ‘educated’ fools who still believe in fairy tales and run their life (and attempt to run others lives) as if  their hate mongering tales and prophecies  have any place or bearing in modern society.   In other words drawing a line between myself and others. So easy,  right?

It”s so easy for me to preach considering I basically won the lottery of birth by being  born into a stable, white, middle class family in one of, if not,  The greatest countries  on Earth. I never had extenuating circumstances to overcome.  My parents never beat or abused me mentally. I never went to bed hungry or feeling unloved. I was never treated poorly just because of my skin color.  I was never in a war torn country afraid of losing my life at any moment.  I had a proper education and had opportunities some will never see in their life time…. some of which I carelessly pissed away. I had problems,  sure… but who doesn’t?
I know all of this, it’s precisely why I cautiously and respectfully try to see everyone’s point of view in life.  It”s precisely why I advocate against greed and treat all people with dignity and respect,  even if I don’t think they deserve it. Even if it’s not given in return.

I know positive thinking will NEVER be a substitute for positive action or an antidote for all the evil in the world.  There must be consequences for our actions; good and bad.  I’m not advocating a society without consequences.  Utopias can’t exist under such a system. But before I go off on some sociological tangent.. let me just say you can sit and daydream all you want… But you must take action if you want change. This is what separates it from wishful thinking..

Just take baby steps.. one positive action at a time. Be aware that every decision you make not only effects you.. but potentially the entire planet. You’ve heard it before…it’s a poem by  James Foley

“Drop a pebble in the water:
just a splash, and it is gone;
But there’s half-a-hundred ripples

C
ircling on and on and on,
Spreading, spreading from the center,

flowing on out to the sea.
And there is no way of telling

where the end is going to be.

Drop a pebble in the water:
in a minute you forget,
But there’s little waves a-flowing,

and there’s ripples circling yet,
And those little waves a-flowing

to a great big wave have grown;
You’ve disturbed a mighty river

just by dropping in a stone.

Drop an unkind word, or careless:
in a minute it is gone;
But there’s half-a-hundred ripples

circling on and on and on.
They keep spreading, spreading, spreading     ”

So… what’s it going to hurt to make someone smile, or do something for someone you know can’t repay you.. or forgive those who have betrayed you…or being  grateful for just everything?  It seems so petty and trivial when you think about it.  But every positive thought you send out or every good deed  you do… You are helping to tip the entire planet into a place of prosperity and peace.. simply by doing your part as an incubator for love and compassion..

Kinda sounds like you’re pretty important doesn’t it?  Well it’s because you are… and I think you have forgotten this in the seemingly random craziness of day to day life.  Deep down you know there is something special about you.  Deep down you know you make a difference. Deep within your soul you know you have the capabilities to add immense value to our planet and to the future world of our predecessors.  You can and will make a difference. Remember the ripple?

 So go ahead,  claim your birthright at this very moment.. Claim it now – go ahead do it –  blissful happiness at no one’s expense but your own.
