I Just Read “What Happened After an Appalachian Town Got Shamed Nationally” on Politico.com
Posted on by John Higginbotham
This is my hometown, the city I was born in, Huntington, WV. I remember when this came out and how badly I felt for the people that were basically being publicly shamed. It really really bothered me. It especially bothered me that people were profiting from fat shaming others.
I just don’t like the ‘ look at me, I’m healthy and perfect and you are a fat slob and need a lot of work”. attitude. Self righteousness never looks good on anyone. You can help someone do better by not making them feel like less of a person. Right?
Anyway, I’m glad though that there has been some improvement.
