I’ve spent a lot of time over the years experimenting with different ways to organize my work, manage projects, and bring various tools together in one place.
Modern OS grew out of that interest.
The idea was to create something that looked and behaved more like a traditional computer desktop than a typical website, but with WordPress running underneath it.
Instead of navigating between different pages and dashboards, I wanted a central workspace where I could open applications in separate windows, move them around, and access the tools I use regularly.

How It Works
Modern OS is a custom WordPress-based desktop environment featuring a taskbar, Start menu, movable and resizable windows, and a collection of integrated applications.
Some of the tools I’ve been developing include:
- Project Management: Organizing projects, subprojects, tasks, and resources.
- Time Tracking: Integrating Clockify to track time spent on different activities.
- Financial Management: Working with Money Manager EX and related activity logs.
- Document Management: Keeping files and project documents organized.
- Task and Issue Tracking: Recording tasks, problems, progress, and completed work.
- Communication Tools: Experimenting with announcements, messages, and shared workspaces.
Many of these components started as separate ideas and gradually became part of a larger system.
An Ongoing Experiment
Modern OS is still evolving.
Some features have required considerably more experimentation than I initially expected, particularly getting the desktop interface and individual applications to work smoothly across different screen sizes.
I’ve also been exploring ways to make the system useful on mobile devices without losing the desktop-style experience.
One of the things I enjoy most about working on this project is that it gives me an opportunity to experiment with ideas as they come along. I can build a tool, test it in my own workflow, and make changes based on what works and what doesn’t.
What’s Next?
I plan to continue refining the desktop environment, improving the applications, and exploring additional integrations.
For now, Modern OS remains both a practical workspace and an ongoing software development experiment.
I’ll use this page to document its progress, share screenshots, and discuss some of the challenges and discoveries along the way.
