I’m Watching “The Century: America’s Time – 1914-1919: Shell Shock” on YouTube

The documentary started off on Pier 54 in New York City…. it discussed the departure of the doomed Lusitania, who was sunk by a German U-boat off the coast of Ireland in the Celtic Sea. It showed some disturbing images of children who died in the tragedy. I didn’t like it, they should have omitted it in my opinion This was part of a 15 part series that aired in 1999. Peter Jennings narrated. He would die just...

I Just Watched “The twenties in Color America in Color The 1920s Smithsonian Channel” on YouTube

I can’t get enough of learning about past decades.. Especially one as recent as just one hundred years ago. It was interesting to see digitally enhanced color video shoots of private parties during prohibition, busy streets in New York City and people just living their every day lives…. all caught on film. I wonder if any of them ever thought about what future generations would think of their era, just as I often think of what generations after...

I’m Watching “What Was The Life Of A Roman Citizen Like? | Meet The Romans | Odyssey” on YouTube

Mary Beard is the presenter, she’s quite interesting. She’s my mom’s age. I added her to my interesting people database… Apparently, she’s quite well known, but this documentary is the first I’ve heard of her. While watching this I had an idea for a history project… I also added a couple of places I’d like to see and visit. https://youtu.be/Q8ptqoks5qU

Watch “Who Were The Real People Onboard The Titanic? | Waking Titanic | Timeline” on YouTube

This Titanic documentary focuses on the Addergule 14, a group of poverty stricken girls from Ireland. They were headed to America at the urging of a woman who found success in Chicago 20 years earlier. When they arrived on the ship, it was the first time they had ever seen electricity or running water. They stayed in steerage class but on the Titantic apparently steerage class was like 2nd class on some ships and even first class on...

I’m Watching “The Century: America’s Time – 1920-1929: Boom To Bust” on YouTube

Peter Jennings hosted this in 1999. He would be dead six years later at the age of 67. It starts off by discussing prohibition and the spread of electricity. People started using electricity in the cities first, then to the point where most households had electricity in their homes by the end of the decade. It states that people used lanterns for light… it made no mention of gas lighting, which was also used, I’m just not sure...

I Just Watched “THE Moment People First Heard An Automated Voice” on YouTube

There is an entire generation of people who have never experienced life without an automated attendant. I learned in this video that AT&T started experimenting with voice automation in 1991. Several operators are interviewed because they were afraid for their jobs. If you don’t follow David Hoffman on YouTube, I urge you to do so… he has been producing documentaries for decades and has been sharing a lot of them to YouTube over the years.

I Just Watched “How The Blitz Blurred Lines Between Social Classes | Turn Back Time: The Family | Absolute History” on YouTube

We are lucky that in the United States we have never really experienced anything like this on this scale….. It’s still true now, your financial status will dictate how you live in a crisis. In my lifetime, the pandemic that we are experiencing now is the closest I have personally been to living in a worldwide crisis.. and being limited. But this pales in comparison to what people in the forties had to endure. I often wonder what...
