I Just Watched “A Look At The British Families Below The Poverty Line In 1975 | Our History”

This was from 1975. I’ve watched a lot of documentaries, primarily American and British, about the struggles people living in poverty must endure. It’s heart breaking…. Hearing about people going to bed hungry or not knowing if they’d even have a place to live from day to day really tugs on your heart. I watched one from Chicago where the presenter asked where they saw themselves in five years… More than one said they would be lucky to...

I Just Watched “America’s Broken Dream: The Middle-Class Families Living in Motels | Poverty in the USA Documentary” on YouTube

I watched this yesterday…It was from a European perspective, meaning the producer who made the documentary was based in Europe. It featured several families with children who were living out of weekly rental hotels. It was heart breaking to watch. Most of the people interviewed were in their 40’s and 50’s with several children. Being on social media gives you the illusion that everyone is fabulously rich, successful and happy.. It’s just not true, there are millions of...

I Just Watched “Park Avenue: Money, Power and the American Dream⎜WHY POVERTY?⎜(Documentary)” on YouTube

This documentary starts off with comparing the wealthy Park Ave with the part across the river, which isn’t as fortunate. The difference is astonishing. It then goes on to explain the differences as a result of a rigged, unfair economic system. They do this with the game of Monopoly. Players in the traditional game all start out equal… they each have an equal chance of wealth. A group of psychologists did an experiment where the game was rigged…...

I’m Watching “New York City rich and poor — the inequality crisis | DW Documentary” on YouTube

About 15 minutes into this documentary, they interviewed two sisters and their dad. The dad said they wish they wouldn’t flaunt their privilege on social media. He continued by saying “that’s their brand” He used the word brand several times. I thought that was interesting… everything is a brand now.. It’s nauseating to hear it so much.. His daughters were very dismissive and disrespectful of their father…. as he told them he didn’t like what they were posting...

I Just Watched “Homeless in Detroit”

This is a British documentary that aired on BBC 3 five years ago in 2016. It documents the plight of two transgender women and a couple of men who were once criminals….as they live their existence in one of the most hardened, once successful cities in America, Detroit. It was heart breaking to hear their stories. I read some of the comments which really bothered me… There were a few who said they did not feel sorry for...

I Just Watched “What Went Wrong in Chicago? America’s Most Segregated City (Poverty Documentary) | Real Stories” on YouTube

I hate to see people suffer. I almost stopped watching it but I thought it was important for me to be aware. I’ve watched some older documentaries on Chicago in the past. A couple of the people interviewed were asked where they thought they’d be in five years. One of them said he’d be lucky to still be alive, another person said he didn’t even want to be alive by then. I watched a news special awhile back...

I Just Watched “Where Did Chicago Go Wrong? America’s Hyper-Segregated City (Poverty Documentary) | Real Stories” on YouTube

I have watched a lot of documentaries similar to this over the past three or four years. I’ve watched them where the focus was different cities and even different countries. I’ve noticed some common denominators in all of them. Primarily, it was determined by city officials that high rises did not work in helping the poor. Many cities have started to tear them down. It’s heartbreaking to see people suffer. It really bothers me. But I want to...
