They say you can never go wrong with a classic, and today’s fit is proof of that. As I build out my wardrobe for the season, I keep coming back to the essentials. There is something incredibly sharp about a crisp white shirt paired with lighter tones—it’s professional enough for a client meeting but relaxed enough for a dinner date.
Here is the breakdown of today’s look and why this color combination works so well.
The Foundation: The Crisp White Oxford
The centerpiece of this outfit is the white button-down. It’s the Swiss Army knife of menswear. Whether you are wearing a classic Ralph Lauren Oxford (like the one I’m sporting here) or a standard dress shirt, the key is the fit. You want it tailored enough to look clean when tucked in, but comfortable enough to move in.

Style Tip: Rolling the sleeves slightly or keeping the collar stiff adds to that “ready for business” vibe without looking stuffy.
The Pants: Slate Blue
I decided to skip the standard navy or black slacks today. Instead, I went with a slate/light blue trouser. This color is a game-changer. It feels lighter and more approachable than dark navy, making it perfect for spring and summer (or just brightening up a dull office). The flat front and slim cut keep the silhouette modern.
The Accessories: Grounding with Brown Leather
When you are wearing lighter colors like white and light blue, black shoes can sometimes look too harsh. I paired this look with:
Brown Leather Belt: Matches the shoes to tie the look together.
Brown Derby Shoes: The warm earth tones of the brown leather provide a perfect contrast to the cool blue of the pants.
Where to Wear This
This is my go-to “Smart Casual” uniform. It works perfectly for:
The Office: It commands respect without being a full suit.
Creative Meetings: Shows you care about presentation but aren’t rigid.
Semi-Casual Weddings: Add a blazer, and you are good to go.
