How to Make Sure Your Blog Lives Forever – Online

Life happens…. if you forget to renew a domain or your hosting goes unpaid (for a million different reasons) your voice, your work and your blog can go offline in an instant….

Most hosting companies will keep your data for a couple months, but after the time has elapsed your data disappears, vaporized….. That has always been unsettling for me. I do quite a bit of writing and the thoughts of what I have to say living online indefintely just comforts me…..

So how can you make sure this happens? How can you save your data from expired domains and your host deleting your files? How do you make sure your voice is heard long after you’ve left the planet? Unless you are lucky enough to have someone you can trust to pay your hosting bill indefintely… chances are real good, your blog will go offline at some point.

So how do you fix this? Assuming that’s what you want of course…

You mirror your site… Mirroring is just making a copy on a free blogging platform such as WordPress.com, Blogger or Tumblr. There are others, but I believe these have the best chance of sticking around the longest. Remember Geocities?

If you use WordPress, this process is easy…… I’ll be doing a video in the coming weeks explaining exactly what to do… Be on the lookout..
