Description: The Gay 80’s :: Eyewitness News :: Archival Footage

This really does a good job of what gays must have gone through thirty years ago. At one point the interviewer asked if they considered themselves sick. It was a valid question, I think it was considered a mental sickness until 1973.

I watched this entire video on my phone.. It was very intriguing. I just wonder what happened to all of these people 30 years later..

There was an older couple in their mid-to-late 60s that did not come out of the closet until 51.. They had been together for many years They were talking about the challenges they had of being and older gay couple. At one point the interviewer asked what one would do without the other, they got a sad look on their face, you could tell they loved each other, it really bothered me. Because by now they have experienced being apart I’m sure…. via death. So so sad.

I would love to know whatever happened to them. They are probably no longer around. It’s sad to think of that though. I love to hear stories of gay people who lived and a different era.

I’m so glad people post videos like this. that’s the one thing I miss about being around Clyde Grubbs, I loved to hear his stories. I hate that he stormed out of the laundrymat because mom was trying to look out for him. Especially since he spoke so poorly of my great grandparents. I bothered me when he did that… But it was only once and it was more of Clyde being a pervert than him speaking poorly of them.

He said that he would put on great grandpa’s used condom and jack off…. It was terrible… I couldn’t believe he said something like that about my grandparents. Mom was with us and I thought she was going to jump out of her skin.

Since both mom and I didn’t say anything, I expected the same courtesy from him if we ever were to slip up and say something inappropriate. I don’t even see what mom said was offensive….and it certainly wasn’t so when compared to what he had said a few days before. All I can say is it was a good thing mom was on her meds… Because she’s been known to not take them right. Anyway, when he stormed out, I took that as a sign he didn’t need to be in my life anymore.
