For some, gratitude comes easily. For others gratefulness is challenging. Nurturing gratitude, however, is one of our most effective means to dispel the “shadow” and lift us towards the “light.”
It's impossible to have any negative feeling when you are in a state of gratitude, our minds just aren't wired that way. So I feel that it really is important to, as the old hymn says;
"Count your blessings, count them one by one, count your blessings, see what God hath done"
You don't have to be religious to understand the impact that being grateful has on your life. We take so much for granted, especially those of us who live in the developed countries of the world. Only when you are grateful for what you have will you start to see more happy and positive things pour into your life. Gratitude enriches you and prepares you for everything good (and bad) on your life's journey.
So, what are you grateful for?
Are you grateful for your parents and grandparents, for without them you would not even be on this beautiful planet?
Are you grateful for your eyes that see, your nose to smell and your ears to hear? Could you imagine how your life would be without any of your senses?
Are you grateful for your family, friends and even your pets, who stay loyal and help your journey on this earth to be a little more pleasant?
Are you grateful for your sense of touch for letting you feel the texture of your clothes, the breeze of the wind, and the hands of your loved ones?
Are you grateful for your sense of smell for letting you smell scented candles, perfumes, and beautiful flowers in your garden?
Are you grateful for your sense of taste for letting you savor the sweetness of fruits, the saltiness of seawater, the sourness of pickles, the bitterness of a lemon, and the spiciness of chili?
Are you grateful for your speech that gives you an outlet to express yourself and communicate with the ones you love? Could you possibly imagine not being able to communicate with the people you care about?
Are you grateful for your heart that pumps life giving blood nonstop to all the parts of your body? An organ that's been working for you nonstop, giving you life; every second, every day since the day you were born.
Are you grateful for your lungs that help you to breathe and your immune system for fighting viruses that enter your body. Without either one of them you wouldn't even be alive.
Are you grateful for your hands so you can type on your computer, flip the pages of books, and hold the hands of your loved ones.
Are you grateful for you legs that allow you to walk where you need to go, run, swim, play the sports you love and curl up in the comfort of your seat? What would you life be like without any of them?
Are you grateful for your mind that allows you to think and store memories or for your health that enables you to do what you want to do and for everything you’re about to do in the future?
Are you grateful for the sun, the sunset, moon and the stars?
Are you grateful to the Earth for creating the environment for life to begin and to mother nature for covering our world in beauty?
Are you grateful for the roads we travel on or the water we drink out of a faucet? So many people toiled and suffered so that we can turn on a faucet to get fresh water and drive in our car to get wherever we want to go.
It's almost incomprehensible how different our lives would be without just one of the things I've mentioned. But in the end,
Are you grateful to be alive!?
Gratitude costs nothing but it is worth more than all the riches in the world.
Gratitude enriches you and allows more good things to pour into your life. Don't make the mistake of reserving gratitude just for November of each year, be grateful every day!
There is so much to be grateful for, there is so much to live for, there is so much love to give, there is so much to be happy about!
