I Just Watched “Charles Dickens: Tale of Ambition and Genius”| Full Documentary | Biography

I learned a few things after watching this…

He wrote scathingly about the US after he visited… He found it crass and disappointing.

One day he received a letter from his first love, Maria Beadnel, wanting to meet… he was very excited because she was his first love. After they met, however, he did not like what he saw… and dismissed her from his life. In his novel, “Little Dorrit”, he based the character Flora Finchet on the woman. She was not cast in a good light.

He later divorced his wife, Catherine Dickens, after being married to her for 22 years. He told her she was never his intellectual equal. She lived another 20 years after the breakup and never got over it.. She outlived Charles Dickens by nine years.

That bothered me.
