I Just Watched “Escaping the Blitz” on YouTube

This is an oral history that was published last year in 2020… at least that was the date on the credits. I’m not entirely sure when these interviews were done, since the Pandemic has been going on for almost two years.

It was sad to hear some of the stories. The people in this oral history were children during the blitz and survived. Some of them had lost their entire families.. Many had to leave their families and evacuate to escape London before the Germans started bombing.

It took awhile for the bombs to start falling…. which gave many Londoners the false sense that everything was OK. People started bringing their children home.

The UK required people in the countryside to take the children in… they were given money. Evacuation from London was no compulsory though.

Very good oral history of a time many alive today have forgotten about..
